The quality demand, both on the sound and vibration characteristics of most industrial machines and components is higher and higher everyday.
Compressors, power generators, as well as many outdoor types of equipment such as bulldozers and cranes are forced by regulations to lower their sound power level. These products have to be tested and validated according to international standards. For that purpose, instrumentation must be efficient and accurate allowing a very repetitive operation. Machines and components are then submitted to further investigation to improve their characteristics: Therefore, the testing instrumentation should be flexible and powerful.
Field diagnostics requires portable investigation analyzing tools for detecting problems on roller bearings and gears. On large machines such as diesel engines on ships, field techniques such as sound intensity help locate potential sources of malfunction. For all these industrial purposes the analyzers have to be precise, efficient, easy to handle and rugged.
Machineries need, under some occasions, to be left under surveillance: typically after installation, maintenance or when looking after occasional high vibration levels. The Mobi-PackTM can be left on site watching the machine. The unique Time to Stop function allows to trigger the raw time domain data capture when exceeding a given alarm threshold. The data can then be analyzed using the post-processing functions.
After any machine installation, demanding vibration acceptance tests have to be carried out on site. They are often carried out along a sequence of stable speeds, letting the machine stabilize, and of run-up sessions. Vibration levels can be monitored as a function of time or RPM. Alarm level can be defined as overall values or as a function of frequency based on customizable spectrum templates.
